Craftype: The Playful Display Font That Transformed My Brand

It started with a simple label. I run a small candle-making business, and I was preparing a new line of soy candles in minimalist glass jars. Everything looked great—except the label. The font felt flat, generic, and completely disconnected from the cozy, handcrafted vibe I wanted to share with customers. That’s when I discovered Craftype.

Craftype is a cheerful display font that brings personality and warmth to any design. It’s not meant for long paragraphs or technical documents. Instead, it shines in headlines, logos, packaging titles, and other short, eye-catching text. The letters have a hand-drawn feel with just the right amount of bounce, making it perfect for small businesses that want to look creative, approachable, and a little whimsical.

How Craftype Made My Brand Feel More Real

Before Craftype, my candle labels used a basic sans serif font that came with my design software. It was readable, sure, but it didn’t say anything about my brand. Once I switched to Craftype for the product name and scent description, something clicked. The labels felt more personal, like they were made by a real person—not just printed from a template.

I started using it across other touchpoints too: thank-you cards, Instagram story templates, even the header on my packaging inserts. The result? Customers began commenting on how “cozy” and “thoughtful” my branding looked. That’s the power of good typography—it doesn’t just deliver a message, it shapes how people feel about your brand.

Where Craftype Works Best

Craftype isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, and that’s a good thing. It’s best used for display purposes—like logo design, product packaging, social media graphics, and print materials where you want to grab attention without overwhelming the eye. Here are a few places I’ve found it works especially well:

Typography Matters More Than You Think

As a small business owner, I used to think branding was mostly about colors and logos. But typography plays just as big a role in how people perceive your business. The right font can make your brand feel more professional, trustworthy, and memorable—even if it’s playful like Craftype.

First impressions often happen in seconds, especially online. A clean, consistent type choice helps customers understand your brand quickly and feel confident in what you offer. Whether it’s a candle label or a digital ad, Craftype helps my brand feel cohesive and intentional.

Pairing Craftype with Other Fonts

One of the smartest design decisions I made was pairing Craftype with a clean sans serif font for body text. This contrast makes headlines pop while keeping the rest of the design readable and balanced. For more elegant branding—like a boutique or skincare line—you could pair it with a soft serif or script font for a more elevated look.

Here are a few effective pairings I’ve tried:

  1. Craftype + Montserrat – Great for modern, clean packaging with a friendly headline.
  2. Craftype + Playfair Display – Adds sophistication to product labels and boutique tags.
  3. Craftype + Lora – Works well for editorial-style social media content or blog graphics.

Readability Tips for Real-World Use

Even the best font can fall flat if it’s not readable. Craftype is designed for display use, so it’s important to use it where the text will be large enough to read easily. I’ve found it works best at 14pt or larger on printed materials and 24px or more on digital graphics.

For small labels or mobile thumbnails, I make sure to keep the text short and avoid using it in all caps. It’s also a good idea to check how it looks in different sizes before printing or publishing—especially if you’re designing packaging or product mockups.

What to Check Before Using Craftype

When you’re running a small business, you want to make sure every design choice is legal and scalable. Before using Craftype, I double-checked that it included the proper licensing for commercial use. This means I can use it on product packaging, digital downloads, and marketing materials without worrying about copyright issues.

I also looked at the file formats included—Craftype supports OTF and TTF, which work across most design platforms. It also has ligatures and alternate characters, which let me customize the look a bit more depending on the project. If you’re targeting an international audience, check for multilingual support too.

Why Craftype Feels Like the Right Fit

Choosing a font might not seem like a big deal, but it’s one of the most impactful design decisions I’ve made for my candle business. Craftype helped me create a brand that feels more polished, consistent, and memorable. It’s not just a font—it’s part of my brand’s personality.

If you’re a small business owner, entrepreneur, or creator looking to refresh your visuals, give Craftype a try. Whether you’re designing packaging, social media posts, or thank-you notes, it can help your brand feel more human, more connected, and more uniquely you.
